Privacy policy

The short version

• No tracking cookies. This website sets no cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. That's why you don't see a cookie-consent banner — there's nothing to consent to.
• No third-party trackers. No Google Analytics, no ad pixels, no social-media beacons embedded in these pages.
• No accounts required. You can read this entire site without signing in or handing over any personal data.
• No data sold or shared. We don't sell, rent, or trade personal data — we don't collect the kind that would make that possible.

What we do collect

Like any website, our server keeps standard access logs to run the site securely and reliably. When your browser requests a page, the web server (nginx) records:

• your IP address,
• the page or file requested and the response status,
• your browser's user-agent string and referring page, and
• the date and time of the request.

We use these logs only to operate the service — spotting abuse, debugging errors, and understanding load. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we don't combine them with any other data to identify you personally. Logs are kept for a short period and then rotated out.

Analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool that we self-host on our own infrastructure — so your visit data is never handed to a third-party analytics company. It records aggregate traffic — page views, referrers, and a rough country and device type derived from the request.

We also capture anonymous session replays for a small sample of visits: a playback of on-page interactions (clicks, scrolls and navigation) that helps us find broken layouts and confusing flows. Text you type into fields is masked, not recorded. These replays are tied to a website, not to you — there are still no cookies and no cross-site tracking, and we don't use any of this to identify you personally. If you'd rather not be recorded, enabling “Do Not Track” in your browser is respected.

Fonts, scripts, and assets

The site is statically hosted and self-contained. Fonts, styles, scripts, and images are served from our own domain — we don't pull assets from third-party CDNs that could see your requests.

Links to other services

Some pages link out to services like GitHub, our documentation, or PyPI. Once you follow a link, that service's own privacy policy applies — we have no control over how they handle your data.

Danbyte the software

This policy covers the danbyte.net website. The Danbyte software you self-host is a separate matter: it runs on your own hardware, phones home to nobody, and includes no telemetry — your instance's data never reaches us. Danbyte Cloud (managed hosting) will have its own terms and data-processing agreement when it launches.

Your rights

If you're in a region covered by the GDPR or a similar law, you have rights over any personal data an organization holds about you — access, correction, erasure, and objection among them. Because this website collects only short-lived security logs and no account data, there's very little for us to hold. If you have a question or a request, get in touch.
